ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla., Aug. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- South University (SU) is pleased to announce that its Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Master of Arts program at the West Palm Beach campus has been granted Accredited Status by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). CACREP has granted South University's CMHC program the longest possible accreditation term – eight years through October 31, 2033 – after a thorough review based on its 2016 Standards.
The CACREP Board of Directors convened from July 17 to July 19 and based its decision on the program's self-study, site review team report, and institutional response. The Board determined that the South University, West Palm Beach CMHC program is in substantial compliance with CACREP standards, affirming the quality of counselor education provided on campus.
Dr. Bridget Glass, Program Director and Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at SU, West Palm Beach, said, "Our program's delivery formats—blending in-person, virtual, and asynchronous learning—allow us to meet diverse student needs while maintaining the highest academic and professional standards."
The CHMC curriculum, while flexible, includes required in-person components across clinical, practicum, and/or externship experiences designed to prepare graduates for professional practice and licensure and provide a path for graduates to satisfy national certification and state licensure requirements to work in the counseling field. Requirements vary by state, and South University cannot guarantee passage of licensure examinations, certification, employment, or salary outcomes. For additional details, students should consult the State Professional Licensure Determination and National Certification/Licensure section of the South University catalog.
"This accreditation affirms the strength of our program and its alignment with national standards," said Dr. Jessica Masoner, Dean of the South University College of Arts and Sciences. "We are committed to supporting our students' development as they prepare for impactful careers in counseling and to advancing the university's mission of delivering quality education in behavioral health disciplines."
South University educates more than 10,000 students across 11 campuses in the Southeastern United States and through online programs. Its academic offerings span healthcare, behavioral sciences, business, and technology, with a focus on preparing graduates for meaningful careers in their chosen fields.
