NEW YORK, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- After six months of testing, Citizenry, a nonprofit civic discovery and engagement platform, is preparing to move out of beta. It now brings together more than 1,000 nonprofits and reaches a growing audience averaging 3,000 people each month. Its next phase will deepen its New York reach while laying the groundwork for other communities.
The platform brings together thousands of ways to participate in one place, from volunteer programs and events to classes, patron programs and local resources that are typically scattered across separate websites and calendars. Its recommendation engine and personalized dashboard then organize that landscape around each person, providing a curated feed of opportunities, information and resources they might otherwise miss.
"Personalization has transformed how people discover nearly everything else. We're applying that same logic to civic participation," said founder Dominic Ramos-Ruiz. "But what's out there is still incredibly fragmented, and much harder to navigate than it should be."
The platform goes beyond discovery. Immersive resources cover local government and nonprofit board service, alongside local updates from elected officials. Its AI assistant helps people navigate civic information, with upcoming features translating open city data into plain-language answers at the neighborhood and block level.
For nonprofits, reaching new supporters is costly, especially for smaller organizations, yet each is largely left to do it alone. The platform gives them another way to reach beyond existing networks while giving more people a path to community and social connection. Because it works across many organizations at once, it can strengthen discovery across the broader civic ecosystem.
Citizenry is exploring partnerships with corporations, municipalities and community foundations to broaden participation and expand the tools, visibility and support available to nonprofits.
Last month, the model was tested in Jackson, Wyoming, bringing more than 200 nonprofits and hundreds of local activities and resources onto the platform. Roughly 2,000 people visited in the first few days with little marketing, showing it could translate to a community dramatically different from New York City.
