NeuroStim TMS Pioneers Accelerated One-Day TMS™ for Depression

PR Newswire

One-Day TMS Therapy heralds a transformative milestone in the delivery of outpatient psychiatric services.

SEATTLE, Aug. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading national TMS provider and research center, NeuroStim TMS ("NeuroStim"), has pioneered a new accelerated form of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation ("TMS"), One-Day TMS, that offers patients a complete therapeutic treatment course of TMS in a single day. In contrast to standard TMS Therapy, which consists of once-daily TMS treatments over the course of 30-36 days and is covered by most major insurers, One-Day TMS consists of multiple treatments during a full day but is not yet covered by insurance.

"One-Day TMS marks a major breakthrough in the evolution of mental health treatments, offering rapid relief for major depression and similar disorders with the convenience of just one day of treatment," said Walt Guidice, CEO of NeuroStim TMS Centers. "We are profoundly honored and humbled to have the distinction of being the first to offer One-Day TMS on a commercial basis."

One-Day TMS is based on the groundbreaking results of the ONE-D clinical study, led by NeuroStim, that utilizes the ONE-D Protocol (Optimized, Neuroplasticity-Enhanced Depression Treatment), co-invented by Jonathan Downar, MD, PhD from the University of Toronto. The study delivered remarkable outcomes, with over 90% of patients achieving significant improvement, and over 75% achieving full remission of depressive symptoms. All 32 patients in the study completed treatment with no major side effects, demonstrating both robust efficacy and safety.

"For patients, one of the biggest obstacles with TMS has always been the large number of treatment visits required," said Dr. Downar. "But a single-day protocol puts TMS within reach for many more people - especially those with busy schedules or those who live far away from clinics. This protocol also involves enhancing the brain's natural 'plasticity' - its ability to rewire itself - during the treatments. Enhancing plasticity during TMS is a new technique that has emerged from the recent scientific literature in the last few years - and it's the key discovery that makes single-day TMS possible."

The ONE-D Protocol, which consists of 20 TMS sessions in a single day, was inspired by earlier accelerated TMS approaches like the SAINT Protocol from Stanford, which consists of 10 TMS sessions a day over 5 days (50 total TMS sessions). Both ONE-D and SAINT employ Intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation (iTBS); however, ONE-D delivers a total of only 12,000 iTBS pulses versus a total of 90,000 iTBS pulses with SAINT. Unlike SAINT, ONE-D does not require the use of functional brain imaging (fMRI) to determine treatment locations but instead relies on targeting heuristics like standard TMS. ONE-D also utilizes two supportive low-dose medications taken only one time at the beginning of treatment: D-cycloserine (DCS) and lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse), both enhancing neuroplasticity.

"We have treated over 150 patients with single day TMS treatment protocols and have consistently seen patient outcomes that meet, and often exceed, remission results from standard TMS, all without any major side effects," said Dr. Nick Weiss, NeuroStim's Medical Director and co-author of the ONE-D study.

"Having consistently followed up with over 100 patients who have been treated with One-Day TMS, I can say that the patient experience has been overwhelmingly positive," said Brooke Marino, DNP, PMHNP, lead research practitioner on the ONE-D study. "Not only is One-Day TMS very accessible and convenient for patients on the day of treatment, but treatment brings fast relief for most, and the effects are quite durable, with the majority of patients still in remission 6 months later."
