Mississippi Hospitals Save $1M+ and Counting through New Insurance Program

PR Newswire

JACKSON, Miss., Aug. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- A collaboration between Alliant Insurance Services (Alliant) and the Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA) has already saved participating hospitals across the state more than $1 million in insurance premiums this year—freeing up critical funds for staffing, operations, and community care.

Launched in 2024, the program offers MHA's member hospitals access to competitive property and workers' compensation insurance plans through Alliant. More than 20 member hospitals have taken advantage of the program so far, and MHA hopes to see that number grow.

"MHA works closely with our member hospitals to help them achieve some of the lowest costs in the nation, but rising healthcare expenses—especially for rural providers—remain a major challenge," said MHA President and CEO Richard Roberson. "This collaboration with Alliant connects our members to trusted experts who can often secure stronger coverage at lower premiums. The early results have been outstanding."

Alliant Regional Director Stephen Fountain said that after the challenges Mississippi hospitals have faced over the past few years, it's rewarding to deliver measurable impact. "These hospitals have already been proactive in finding solutions to high healthcare costs," he said. "We are proud to help them free up significant additional funds without compromising the quality of care they provide."

Chad Netterville, MHA's Director of the Rural Hospital Alliance and Center for Rural Health, emphasized the local benefits. "Hospitals are reinvesting these savings directly into their communities—funding raises, new hires, expanded services, and equipment upgrades that patients will see and feel," he explained.

MHA and Alliant plan to expand outreach statewide through 2026. Alliant Vice President Burney Hutchinson said he uses a simple analogy when meeting with hospitals: "It's like an annual checkup. You may feel fine, but that in-depth review can uncover opportunities to dramatically improve your health and performance. That's exactly what this collaboration is doing for MHA members."
