TULSA, Okla., Oct. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Quality Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric, a locally owned home services company based in Glenpool, Oklahoma, encourages area residents to take steps to protect against dangerous carbon monoxide exposure ahead of November's National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month.

Quality Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric, a locally owned home services company based in Glenpool, Oklahoma, shares tips to keep families and pets safe as November’s National Carbon Monoxide Awareness approaches.

"Because carbon monoxide is completely colorless and odorless, it often goes unnoticed," said Cassie Pound, vice president and co-owner of Quality Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric. "It's critical to take proactive measures to detect and prevent carbon monoxide to protect your family and pets from accidental exposure."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), accidental exposure to carbon monoxide results in approximately 100,000 emergency room visits each year. The most common symptoms mimic flu-like conditions and may go undetected.

Pound provides some simple steps that homeowners can take:

  • Install carbon monoxide detectors: These items are relatively inexpensive and are readily available online and in stores. Be sure to use carbon monoxide alarms that are UL Listed, meaning it has been tested to recognized safety standards, and follow the manufacturer's instructions for testing. If the detector uses batteries, be sure to replace them regularly as directed.
  • Maintain clear ventilation pathways: Make sure that fireplace chimneys and flues are free of soot and debris such as bird nests or leaves and regularly check dryer vents for blockages.
  • Schedule professional inspection and maintenance: All fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, water heaters and kitchen appliances should be checked by a certified professional at least once a year.

"As temperatures cool, many homeowners turn on heating systems that have been dormant for months, making this an ideal time to schedule annual professional maintenance," said Pound. "Taking a few precautions now can help reduce safety risks as colder weather sets in."
