- The new service enables any business or public Wi-Fi provider to join the Helium Network, expanding reliable, community-driven coverage while creating new revenue streams
- With a simple software configuration process, Helium Plus enables businesses to use their existing Wi-Fi router to join the Helium Network, no new hardware required
- Helium Plus will enable tens of thousands of new contributors to expand coverage for Helium Mobile and other major carriers, helping them offload data and lower operational costs
Helium, a leader in decentralized wireless communications and the world's first people-powered network, today formally announced the launch of Helium Plus, a new service that allows businesses, or any public Wi-Fi provider, to contribute to the Helium ecosystem. This feature will expand reliable and community-driven wireless coverage across the U.S. and Mexico.
Traditionally, expanding Helium's people-powered network required setting up physical Hotspots. Now, with Helium Plus, businesses and public Wi-Fi providers can seamlessly join the Network by updating their existing routers through a simple self-served software upgrade, no extra hardware needed. This breakthrough removes barriers to entry and enables hundreds of thousands of new contributors, from shopping malls to cafes and more, to expand the Helium Network while earning HNT tokens in exchange for providing connectivity. In June, the Helium Network paid out more than $300K to Hotspot hosts for carrier offload data, reflecting a 20% month-on-month rewards growth.
“Helium Plus represents a major leap forward in how businesses can contribute to the Helium Network,” said Mario Di Dio, Network General Manager at Helium. “It offers instant, low-cost wireless integration, reducing infrastructure costs while creating new revenue streams and improving connectivity. The simplicity of our process is key to unlocking the full potential of this expansion.”
“At Space Hospitality, we're always looking for ways to elevate the customer experience, and seamless connectivity is essential,” said Harvey Shim, IT & Marketing Director at Space Hospitality. “Our venues are located in New York City buildings where cellular signals struggle to get through. Helium Plus gave us a secure, easy-to-deploy solution, and the impact has been clear: more social sharing, higher engagement, and a direct lift in sales. With 21 Hotspots deployed and more on the way, Helium has become a vital part of how we serve and connect with our guests.”
Beyond making it easier for businesses to contribute, Helium Plus also plays a crucial role in carrier offload, a feature activated on the Helium Network in June 2024. Carrier offload enables mobile carriers and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs), such as Movistar, to route customer data through the Helium Network, enhancing coverage while lowering operational costs. Since the launch of carrier offload, the Helium Network has moved more than 10 PBs of mobile data and has now exceeded a million daily users on the Helium Network, proving its potential.
