HabitNu Selected by CMS to Join the National Health Tech Ecosystem Advancing Digital Prevention for Diabetes and Obesity

CHICAGO, Aug. 1, 2025
CHICAGO, Aug. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- HabitNu, a CDC-recognized digital health company focused on lifestyle change for diabetes, obesity, and chronic disease prevention, has been selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to join the National Health Tech Ecosystem, an initiative aimed at modernizing healthcare delivery through better data access, interoperability, and personalized digital tools.
As part of this CMS initiative, HabitNu joins a select group of early adopters working to build secure, real-time connections between Medicare and Medicaid data systems and the digital platforms patients use every day.
Led by CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, the National Health Tech project fosters a voluntary, standards-based ecosystem where electronic health records (EHRs), mobile apps, and connected tools seamlessly work together, reducing provider burden, enhancing care quality, and empowering patients to control their health data.
HabitNu's commitments to the ecosystem include the following:
- Connect to CMS-aligned networks using secure FHIR APIs and identity protocols
- Deliver personalized coaching and habit-forming nudges driven by both clinical and behavioral data
- Automate onboarding through data prefill from verified CMS records
- Ensure HIPAA-compliant, consent-based data access and sharing
- Report outcomes including weight loss, HbA1c improvement, medication adherence, and engagement metrics
These commitments directly support CMS's vision for accessible, outcomes-driven digital health, especially for underserved populations.
Why This Matters
Chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension hit Medicare and Medicaid populations hardest. Preventive care is often inaccessible or underutilized.
HabitNu helps close the gap with a mobile-first platform that combines behavior tracking, personalized coaching, and culturally relevant content. Already used by public health agencies, Medicaid/Medicare plans, and employer programs, HabitNu will now integrate directly with the CMS systems, allowing for timely intervention when clinical risks arise, such as:
- Missed prescription refills
- Elevated blood pressure or HbA1c levels
- New diagnoses of chronic conditions.
"This isn't just a pledge - it's a shift in how prevention actually happens," said Dr. Sindhu Rajan, CEO of HabitNu. "Behavior change doesn't start in the clinic. It starts with the habits people build in their homes, jobs, and communities. CMS is laying the technology infrastructure for real-time data access. Our job is to make that data actionable, empathetic, and personal. This ecosystem allows us to meet people in the moment, with the right nudge, the right coaching, and the right context, before problems become crises."
