EDMONTON, AB, Sept. 9, 2026 /CNW/ -- Build Canada Homes is scaling up the supply of affordable housing through partnerships that deliver more homes, faster, across the country to Build Canada Strong

Today, the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, joined the Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada and The Honourable Nathan Neudorf, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services and Minister Responsible for Housing, to announce a new partnership between Build Canada Homes (BCH) and the Government of Alberta. The agreement will support the delivery of at least 1,460 affordable housing units across Alberta and establishes a multi-year framework to align investments and advance a pipeline of housing projects to get more homes built faster.

Through the agreement, BCH will provide up to $220 million alongside more than $165 million from Alberta. Combined with approximately $238 million from additional sources, including municipal contributions, federal housing programs, non-profit and private partners, the partnership is expected to unlock roughly $623 million in housing investments and support a broad range of affordable housing projects.

The partnership is anchored by approximately 21 housing projects that will deliver more than 1,460 affordable homes across the housing continuum, including supportive and transitional housing. These projects will meet both BCH and Alberta's affordability definitions and expand housing options for Albertans facing the greatest housing pressures.

BCH is working with provincial, territorial, municipal, and Indigenous partners to build long-term housing pipelines that create greater certainty, attract additional investment, and support larger-scale housing outcomes. With this Alberta announcement, BCH has established 19 housing partnerships across Canada.

The agreement also advances BCH's commitment to modernizing how housing is built. Partners will be incorporating Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including off-site and factory-built approaches that can accelerate construction, improve productivity, strengthen Canadian supply chains, and help deliver more homes in less time.

To support implementation, BCH and Alberta will establish a joint Collaboration Table responsible for identifying priority projects, coordinating investments, and advancing a province-wide housing portfolio. Individual projects remain subject to due diligence, underwriting, funding availability, approvals, and project-specific agreements.
