GARDEN CITY, N.Y., Aug. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program is pleased to announce a new initiative with Catholic Health's Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, NY to expand cancer support services. The Adelphi Breast Cancer Program enhanced its longstanding partnership with Mercy Hospital by increasing free on-site social work services available to patients and caregivers seeking support during diagnosis and treatment.
This collaboration between the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program and Mercy Hospital focuses on supporting young breast cancer patients and women with metastatic disease. As part of the initiative, patients and caregivers have access to support groups, and on-site social workers who are available to assist individuals at any stage of the cancer journey. One-on-one referrals are also available for personalized care.
This partnership is funded by a grant from the CDC, awarded last year to the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program along with ten other organizations. Key objectives for the program are to expand clinical services, provide education, and resources to increase patients' quality of life.
"The Adelphi Breast Cancer Program has worked with Mercy Hospital for years and played a critical role in the hospital's National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers in 2023," said Angela Papalia, LMSW, Assistant Director of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program and one of the social workers providing services at Mercy. "This is a significant advancement for breast cancer patients in Nassau County who are seeking treatment close to home and access to no-cost bilingual (English and Spanish) support services."
"Mercy Hospital is proud to partner with the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program, which has a longstanding commitment to supporting breast cancer patients through free services and programming," said Joseph Manopella, Mercy Hospital president. "This collaboration allows us to serve more residents in our community and provide accessible, compassionate care to patients at every stage of their diagnosis and recovery."
